10 years in the making
Freedom Foundation is the charitable arm of Freedom Bakery, building on our learnings from a decade as one of Scotland’s leading social enterprises. This exciting new initiative will allow us to help more people make a fresh start - building the solid foundations that help people live lives of freedom.
A Fresh Start
If there’s one thing we know a lot about, it’s making a fresh start. That’s what 10 years of early mornings teaches you when you’re running a busy bakery - where each day offers the chance to put your best foot forward, and begin all over again. During that time we’ve helped many ex-offenders start again, proving training, employment and opportunity. Now, we want to do more.
Purpose in profit
Why start a new charity we hear you ask. The answer is simple, we want to do more good. Running Freedom Bakery as a social enterprise for a decade has taught us that the more good you want to do, the more money you need to do it. That’s why Freedom Foundation will be funded by profits from Freedom Bakery - pushing us to be a better business so that we can be a more effective charity.

Rise & Shine. These two words guide everything we do at Freedom Foundation. We are committed to lifting people up, so that they can be the very best versions of themselves. With an optimistic outlook, we want the work we do shine a light on the ways that social intervention can help to transform the lives of individuals, families & communities. We believe in people, this belief drives all that we do.
As our work develops over the coming year, our foundation will too. But as we launch, our Freedom Pillars provide the all important foundations that support the steps that we make and the decisions that we take.

We believe that the ultimate freedom in life is the ability to chose what you do with your time. At Freedom Bakery, we choose to make the best bread we possibly can. At Freedom Foundation we want to support as many people as possible so that they may enjoy the freedom to chose how to spend their time. How to spend their days. How to spend their lives.

Decide
With 100% of the initial funding from Freedom Foundation coming from the profits of Freedom Bakery, we have the freedom to decide how best to use these funds. Targeting our support at the people & communities that need it most. It’s a responsibly that we take very seriously indeed.

Grow
Our entrepreneurial experience gained from developing the Freedom Bakery brand will be put to good use - creating a fast moving & nimble charity that can respond to changing needs & circumstances as they arrive. With an ambition to be light on admin, we aim to target our support at the people & places that will benefit most from it.

GET THE RECIPE RIGHT
Setting up Freedom Foundation is a new thing for us and so we’re humble enough to admit that we probably won’t get everything right at the start. That’s why we will always remain open minded and open to change, allowing us to develop the perfect recipe as we go - just as we’ve been doing at Freedom Bakery all of these years.
